Jesse Ramirez is known Internationally as a distinguished and accomplished entertainment journalist with over 20 years of experience in the Latin music industry. A native of the Dominican Republic, alumni of the prestigious New York’s Lehman College, he calls New York City, known as the Capital of Latin music, home. An avid aficionado of Tropical music and a strong advocate for Latin music and his Latino heritage, Jesse is known in the Latin music industry as "El Principe" a term of endearment bestowed to him by Salsa queen and legend Celia Cruz, becoming his trademark. This progressive and talented journalist is a member of ASCAP, NARAS, LARAS and ACE and is Internationally known for his weekly column "ONDA MUSICAL" featured every Friday for the past fifteen years in El Diario La Prensa, a prominent Hispanic newspaper with the largest Latino circulation in the United States. With the emergence of Latin music globally, the thirst for knowledge about Tropical music has created a strong following among his readers, particularly among the young generation that are discovering Latin Music. As a featured writer Jesse has had the honor to write for such distinguished magazines as Canales/New York; Artista / Puerto Rico; El Manisero/ Spain; Miami Musical/ Florida; La Salsa/ Argentina; Viva Magazine a special edition in The Daily News/ New York; Noticias del Mundo/New York; El Globo/ New York and as a syndicated writer for LaMusica.com. Outside of his journalistic career he has had the privilege and honor to write edications, linear notes and poems on numerous music albums for such great l egends as Celia Cruz, Johnny Pacheco, Hector Lavoe, Mario Bauza, Hector Casanova, Tono Rosario, Rolando Laserie, Bobby Rodriguez, Conjunto Clasico, Santiago Ceron, Roberto Rohena, Louie Ramirez, Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez, Sonora Poncena, Frankie Ruiz, and many others. Among his many accomplishments he is the proudest of creating, producing and hosting the first Latin documentary entitled "Salsa USA." This documentary was televised in New York’s channel 11-WPIX featuring legends Tito Puente, Ray Barreto, Ruben Blades and the now deceased Machito, highlighting the roots of Latin music in New York. In 1991 he hosted a popular weekly informative entertainment segment for Univision/ Channel 41 as well as a radio segment on WKDM radio. Jesse was the originator and promoter of "Latin Nights" at the world famous CopaCabana in 1983 and at the present time he is Master of Ceremonies. On an International level he has participated as master of ceremonies in legendary Salsa festivals in South, Central and North America, Asia and Eastern and Western Europe. In his hometown of New York City he has hosted The Miller Salsa Summer Festival, Latin Nights at South Street Seaport and New York’s largest Salsa Festival at Madison Square Garden, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Hall, Lincoln Center, The Palladium, Village Gate, Studio 54, Town Hall, The Apollo Theater and the Beacon Theater. Honored by his peers and prominent civic organizations for his dedication and promotion of Latin culture and music worldwide, he has received numerous awards and proclamations. One of the highest honors bestowed to him was on August 11th, 1989 by the Honorable Mayor Koch and prominent Andrew Stein proclaiming "Jessie Ramirez Day" in New York City. |
