Mambo was very much alive at
Jimmy Anton Social Dance on July 16, 2000.
The event featured performances by: the
Addie-tude Dancers,
Freddie Rios,
Carlos Konig and The Debut of The
Jimmy Anton Student Company!
The large room, with all partitions removed, at
Dance Manhattan Dance School
was packed with about 350 people. The response to the dance performances was overwhelming.
Freddie Rios, Jimmy Anton, and Carlos Konig danced together in a beautiful desplay of "floor shines" (open step patterns). It had been annouced that Freddie Rios would not be able to attend, but, he did arrive and danced the way only he does. After the number was finished the crowd went wild. An old-timer leaned up close to me and said "That's the way they danced at the Palladium!" The Jimmy Anton Student Company danced, with grace and fluidity. These young dancers demonstrated their talent in Jimmy's unique style. This group is one not to miss and definetlly one that is going to go places. These photographs were taken by J. Fernando Lamadrid. Your feedback is welcome. |
