Every Wednesday
Candela Productions
presents Cuban Soul parties at
Nells nightclub
in New York City. These parties have been going on for more than a year and a half and
they are hosted by
Roger Barr. Roger is
British and has been involved with the New
York night-life since he arrived in town 16
years ago.
Nells is a two floor club with the decor of an old gentleman's club. Up-stairs, where live bands play and DJ Medina
"Spins" Son,
there is a bar and a stage as
well as a small dance floor, some sofas and easy chairs, and a restaurant with tables and booths. Downstairs there
are two rooms;
one is a dance floor (larger than up-stairs), a DJ booth, and a small bar.
In the other room there is a seating area with sofas and easy chairs arraigned into three separate areas.
Roger had
been
trying different things downstairs such as Tango, and Afro, but things really took off for him when he installed
DJ Elvira downstairs to play Pure Salsa and fill the
dance floor (and pack the house)
with the New York area dance team members, studio dancers and, social dancers. These dancers mix with the
"Old School"
Up-Stairs crowd which is dancing and listening to traditional Cuban Son. This is what makes Nells special the
mixture between ""Old School" and
New York and New Jersey's best young and energetic dancers. Nells is also a great date bar even if you
are not into Salsa. There is a kitchen at Nells that operates until late and the food is good bar food.
