The Timbales

The timbales are two drums of distinct size. The larger drum is fourteen inches from side to side and the smaller one is thirteen inches across. The larger drum is placed on the left and the smaller drum to the right of the musician. They are played with a twelve inch wand. The timbales are a rhythmic instrument and an extremely important in the music of Latin America, particularly in Cuban music where they give life to rumbas, guarachas and all other rhythms marked by a Cuban style.
